SEJARAH JUDO INDONESIA


Judo became known in Indonesia since 1942, when Japanese troops began occupying Indonesia. On  
certain days the Japanese troops practicing Judo in the dorm, hanging out over time Japanese troops and friendly environment with people boarding the Japanese army, the people of Indonesia who became a close friend of the Japanese soldiers practicing Judo and selected really very selective with the aim of not to endanger the existence of Japanese troops in Indonesia at that time. In 1949 established the first Judo club in Jakarta called "Jigoro Kano Kwai" which is headed by JD Schilder (the Netherlands). Society is practicing at the YMCA building, street Nusantara, Jakarta. Judo club members consist of various layers such as Student, Student, General, Armed Forces, children, adults, men and women. In addition to learning they also learned Judo Jujitsu (a type of Japanese martial arts) that are central to the sport of Judo. At that time Judo associations which still stand on their own or not there are larger organizations that shelter.

On 20 May 1955, established Judo association that is named "Judo Institute Bandung" (JIB) by Lt. Col. Abbas Soeriadinata, Major Uluk Wartadireja, Lt. Col. D. Pudarto, Pouw Tech Noon, with Coach Tok Supriya (Japanese)

On December 25, 1955 Indonesia was formed organization named Judo Judo Association of Indonesia (PJSI) as the highest Judo organizations in Indonesia, which regulate and manage the activities of the National and International Judo. In that year also PJSI has been recognized by the Olympic Committee of Indonesia as Top Judo Organization in Indonesia. In the same year Indonesia was officially registered and accepted as a member of the International Judo Federation (IJF), which became the highest Judo organizations in the world.

In 1957, Judo for the first time included in the National Sports Week (PON) IV in Makassar, South Sulawesi as one of the sports contested. Year 1958 - 1959, chairman of the Commission Technique Judo Union of Indonesia Djakarta (PJID) is Dachjan Elias, and IV went to Japan to deepen their knowledge olehraga Judo. Upon his return from Japan he immediately took steps to invigorate the organization, so that within one year of proven PJID organization better known by the Judo community, including in areas outside of Jakarta.

In 1960, finally PJSI PJID approach to fuse into a single organization. PJID welcomed with open arms PJSI invitation because it has been waiting for and have become the ideals of PJID since its establishment. In the Second Congress of December 20, 1960 in Bandung, established a new PJSI which is a combination of old and PJID PJSI with members of the boards inside the Indonesian people. After joining then there is only one organization alone is PJSI with rapid advances.

In 1961, the National Sports Week (PON) to V in Bandung-pejudo pejudo followed by selections from a variety of areas that had never existed the opportunity to join the competition. Jago emerging talent and full of seeds seem impressive, as the first winner at the time was Soedjono representing the Riau region.

In 1962, the Asian Games IV in Jakarta Judo  does not include sports that are contested but the demonstration. Attention people of Judo were very big. Indonesia managed to occupy second place in the team after Japan as the country of origin of this martial sport. In 1964, Pejudo Indonesia participated in the preparation for Olympic 1964 in Tokyo, Japan. In 1966, All Indonesia Judo Federation (PJSI) Congress held in Jakarta. In this year also Indonesia Judoka participated in the First ASIAN GANEPO in Cambodia and the results are as follows:

   1. Anton Darmadja featherweight champion III
   2. Fanny Setiawan Atmadja lightweight Third Place
   3. Tony Atmadjaja middle-class Third Place
   4. Pieter Rusdhan Tandjono III heavyweight champion

In 1967, Indonesia participated in the Asian Judo Championships in Manila - Philippines, led by Dachjan Elias. The results include:

   1. Tony Atmadjaja middle-class Third Place
   2. Paul Prananto III heavyweight champion.

In 1967 the Indonesian Judoka also participated in the Universiade in Tokyo, Japan where Indonesia has received a bronze medal which is the only medal for the Indonesian contingent who was taken by Tony Admadjaja in the free class.

In 1968, All Indonesia Judo Federation well-developed and received positive support, and together with Provence representative entered into the Fourth Congress, held in conjunction with the National championship. In October 1968, Indonesia as a member of the Judo Federation of Asia is invited to attend the Congress of JFA to II in Tokyo, Japan.

In 1969, in August / September was held the National Sports Week (PON) to VII in Surabaya, Judo sport contested. 

Year 1970, in May, Indonesia to attend the Congress to IV, Judo Federation of Asia is now the Judo Union of Asia (likewise). At that time also held in Asia Judo Championship II, held in Taipei, Taiwan. In a Judo match individuals, Indonesia won the bronze medal in the lightweight class presented by Johannes pejudo Hardjasa. Meanwhile, the Indonesian team won Third Place

In 1971, Indonesia following the world championships in Ludwighafen, West Germany and following the Congress of the International Judo Federation (IJF). In Indonesia the world championships are represented by four pejudo namely: 1. Tony Atmadjaja lightweight and heavyweight classes, 2. Fanny Atmadjaja middle class, 3. Hendri Atmadjaja middle class, 4. Setiawan Iswandi lightweight class. Indonesia is included in "16 Great" to lightweight, which is ranked 12.

1972, August / September, PJSI follow IJF Congress in Munich, West Germany. Indonesian envoy is chairman of Soedjono PJSI daily. In 1973, held PON to VIII in Jakarta from July 4-15 Agustu. Judo including sports that competed in the PON to the present.

It can be concluded that the sport of Judo in Indonesia have long known and loved by the community. Development of Judo in Indonesia quite rapidly both in terms of organization and achievement of pejudo can already be proud of and was able to speak at international level since the 1960's until now.

PJSI attend continuing Judo activities both at the level of Southeast Asia, Asia, and World level like the Olympics. Success achieved pejudo most of Indonesia is in the Sea Games, several times the pejudo Indonesia won the gold medal Sea Games. Indonesia Pejudo outstanding achievements in the 1990s to date include: Krisna Bayu, Pieter Taslim, Ira Purnamasari, Jimmy Anggoro, Toni Irawan, Maulana Adriansyah, and others. PJSI organizations carefully cultivated by the Quartet H. Muchdi, Dachjan Elias, Soedjono and Hamidin RH. Top leader or the chairman had in shaking by H. Muchdi, Lt. Gen. Wismoyo Arismunandar, Maj.
